Pastor Ken Reporting – December 21, 2017

The week before Christmas is always busy. I usually write the sections of this email early in the week. As I write this it is Tuesday afternoon and I am sitting in a restaurant in Chattanooga. I am officiating the wedding of one of my former camp staff  on December 31 and I am meeting her and her fiancee before continuing my trip down to Atlanta for the Southern Union Executive Committee. By the time you get this email I should be back in Nashville.

Thank you! The church staff was overwhelmed with your kindness last Sabbath. Words cannot adequately convey how loved and appreciated we felt by the kind words that were spoken, your standing ovation, and the generosity we discovered when we opened our cards. We want to thank each person who gave so generously to us whether that was monetarily or through your prayers and support. A special thank you to those who worked to organize this! Please know that each of us feel blessed to be able to serve you. We pray you have a wonderful Christmas!

The Church Office will be closed for the week of Dec. 24through January 1.   Merry Christmas!
December 30th is the last day to turn in or be post marked for your tithe and offerings for 2017 taxes.
A group of lay members have launched an initiative to begin raising money for renovations in our church sanctuary and a few other areas of the church. As many of you are very aware, our pews are in bad shape and the carpet in the sanctuary is over 20 years old. If you would like to make an end-of-year contribution, please simply mark “Church Renovation” on your tithe envelope. Please only do this in addition to your normal tithe and offering as we still need to meet our tithe and offering budgets for this year.
We will be re-launching small groups beginning January 6, 2018. If you are currently leading a small group  or would like to lead a small group in our Church, please contact Pastor Nacho for more information.
Madison Academy’s literature evangelism program is adding a female leader and needs a place for her to stay from the beginning of January through the end of June. If you are able to provide a place, please contact Rocky Davis, the KYTN Publishing Director either via email or at 615-859-1391.
Come celebrate the true Reason for the season with members of your church family. The eighth annual candlelight Christmas Eve program will be held in the sanctuary at 6:00 pm on December 24.  Come sing beloved Christmas carols and hear the Christmas story read from Scripture. Hope to see you there!
A family who has recently moved into the area is in urgent need of care for their 2-year old son. Their preference would be someone to come to their home in Hendersonville Monday – Thursday with occasional hours on Friday. It is expected that the position will be 40 hours a week (7:30 am – 5:30 pm M – Th) with the potential for more if a Friday is worked. They are looking for someone who will step into a role as part of the parenting team, actively training and teaching their child in the ways of the Lord. Start date is Tuesday January 2. Pay will be commensurate with experience. If you are interested, please respond to this email and I will forward your information on to the family.
Pick one up in the church foyer.  The MCC Library is giving away a variety of Daily Devotional Books for your use in 2018.
Kids In Tune DVDs are available on our website and would make great gifts this Christmas! Be a part of our ministry by sharing these songs with the kids in your life. When you order on our website, you can choose to have it shipped or pick it up at church. Visit and click on “Store.” Thank you for supporting the children’s choir of MCC!
If you are college age, then you are invited to meet with us every Sabbath morning at 10 am at the Pathfinder building.  Casual conversation and food!  This week’s guest speaker is Dr. Andy Boskind. The title of his talk is, “What I Have Learned about Life.” For more information contact Mary Ann Monroe at (615) 479-0544.
Twyla Hornick is moving to Florida after the new year.  Bring your favorite dish and come bid her farewell December 30, in the downstairs fellowship hall following 2nd service. Dessert will be provided.
At Madison Academy, we are serious about equipping our students to be inspired seekers, empowered scholars, and devoted servants. Thankfully, so are other people – especially two of our donors. These families are willing to match any donation dollar-for-dollar up to $25,000. Please take advantage of this generous gift and help Madison Academy’s educational ministry thrive. Donate at

Devotional Thought

Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
                                Isaiah 7:14 (NKJV)
Immanuel. God with us. Take a moment to ponder that idea. The God by whom and for whom all things were created became one of His creations.
As humans we are a little slow to appreciate the significance. After all, it’s hard to comprehend something that you have never experienced. The glory of heaven and the glory of God are things we have only heard described. The angels understand. That’s why when Jesus was born they couldn’t contain their joy and wonder. They must have wanted to shake every human on earth and say, “You have no idea how amazing the birth that occurred in the most humble of circumstances in Bethlehem is.”
I want to encourage you to take some quiet time this Christmas to think deeply about the love God has displayed for you through Jesus Christ. That understanding is the greatest gift you can receive this Christmas.
And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.Ephesians 3:18-19
Don’t forget to live our mission statement to love God, love people, and serve the world!
God’s blessings,

Ken Wetmore
