Pastor Ken Reporting – May 17, 2018

This was a week of meetings. Monday evening I met with the elmentary school board, I met with the nominating committee last night, and tonightI will be meeting with the 403 (Adventist Community Services) board. The nominating committee is almost done and the plan is to having a first reading on their report the Sabbath after camp meeting.
ONE BIG THING
(If you don’t read anything else, read this)
We used to call it Vacation Bible School (VBS) but now we are calling it Vacation Bible Experience (VBX). No matter what you call it, it is going to be amazing this year. Led by Kalandra Williams and her fantastic team, this VBX is one you don’t want your children or your friends’ and neighbors’ children to miss.
Vacation Bible Xperience Sea of Miracles will be held June 4-8, 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. We really would like attendees to register ahead of time. Click here to register. Please be sure to note any dietary restrictions or food allergies in the medical section. Be sure to invite your friends and neighbors to your church’s VBX.

READ THROUGH THE BIBLE
We are a quarter of the way through our goal of reading through the Bible as a church family. Even if you haven’t done the readings, it would be great to have you start now and do the readings with us. I think there is a real blessing in reading the Bible together. Hard copies of the Bible reading plans can be found at the kiosks in our lobbies. Here is a link to the online Bible reading plan for May. Let’s Read the Bible Together – May.
CAMP MEETING
Camp Meeting is held on the campus of Highland Academy in Portland, which is about a 40 minute drive from Madison Campus. We very much encourage you to attend as many of the meetings as possible including the Sabbath meetings. For that reason, on the camp meeting Sabbaths of May 26 and June 2 Madison Campus will be live streaming the camp meeting Sabbath school and church service in our fellowship hall from 9:15 a.m. until noon for those unable to drive to Portland. There will be no children’s Sabbath schools or other services on those Sabbaths. If you would like more information on all the speakers and presenters and on camp meeting in general click here.
POTLUCK ON CAMP MEETING SABBATHS
Every year on both Sabbaths of camp meeting our church has a potluck at the shelter that overlooks the Highland Academy gym and parking area. Please bring plenty of food as we often have guests who join us.

THANK YOU
We would like to thank everyone for such an outpouring of love to our family. This has been a very difficult time for us, but the encouragement and support we are given daily by our church family has made this journey a little more bearable. We will be forever grateful. With much love, the Gibsons & Popes
IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL
Friday, June 1, 7 p.m. at the Cumberland View Towers Dining Room located  in the basement. Ken Hutchison will tell the story of Horatio Spafford who wrote “It is Well With My Soul.”  Everyone is welcome to come worship with us.

CHILD CARE NEEDED

Celebrate Recovery needs additional folks who could help provide child care on Monday evenings.  We have folks attending who need to bring their children with them, and the child care you can provide would go a long way toward their road to recovery.  Even if you can only help in this area one week a month, you would be making a huge impact in the lives of the children as well as the CR attendee. Please contact Dan Davis, 615-202-4839 for more details.
IT’S A BOY
We kindly invite you to join us for a baby shower in honor of Emily and Dilmar Enderle.  They have registered at Target, Kohls and Amazon.   Come celebrate with food and games at Madison Campus Fellowship Hall June 10, 2-4 p.m.
YOUNG ADULTS
If you’re a young adult, please remember to follow us on FB on Compass (Madison Young Adults).

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.
                                                  Matthew 5:13 (NLT)

Brooks Hamby was the salutatorian of his high school class at Brawley Union High School in 2014. As such he was given the opportunity to present a speech at graduation. Three times the speech was returned to him by school administrators because he shared his Christian faith. School officials threatened to turn off the microphone if he did insert his faith in the speech. Miraculously they did not and the video below is truly “something to think about” this graduation season.
Remember to live our mission. Love God. Love people. Serve the world.

God’s blessings,

Pastor Ken
