Pastor Ken Reports – April 26, 2019

“I am the good shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they know me, just as my Father knows me and I know the Father. So I sacrifice my life for the sheep. I have other sheep, too, that are not in this sheepfold. I must bring them also. They will listen to my voice, and there will be one flock with one shepherd. John 10:14-16 (NLT)

For better or worse, you get to know your pets very well. Our 16-month-old Boxer, Ziggy, has a deep love for trash cans. More specifically, what is inside the trash can. Until yesterday, I did not know that avocado seeds stain red. Ziggy has taught me this as well as to make sure the top is secured on our trash cans. As much as our pets can sometimes cause problems, we love them deeply. When our Boxer, Boomer, died from cancer a couple years ago it was painful. It wasn’t just an animal, it was a part of our family.

In John 11, Jesus describes himself as the “good shepherd.” In spite of their short comings, He loves His sheep and sacrificed His life for them. He also points out to His listeners that they aren’t His only sheep. He has sheep in other pastures. This is an important reminder for us because we have a tendency to focus on only the sheep in the same pasture as us. Sometimes, we even forget that we are sheep too.

This Sabbath, we are going to have the opportunity to hear about how we can reach Muslims with the Gospel and the Three Angels’ Message. Jesus loves all His sheep. He knows each one’s quirks and beautiful qualities. The question for us, is will we love the other sheep that come from different pastures? Will we introduce them to the shepherd who has been so good to us? Will we join with them into one flock that follows Jesus wherever He goes?

ONE BIG THING

Presenter, Elder Gerald Babanezhad, Coordinator of Muslim Outreach at the Pacific Union Conference and Board Member of NAD Adventist Muslim Relations, will share the historical setting and perspective of Islam, the role of the Adventist Church in sharing the Three Angel’s Message with Muslims. Elder Babanezhad will preach for both first and second services on April 27. There will also be a special presentation during Sabbath School (10:10 am) for those who would like to attend. Following second service there will be an all church picnic/potluck at Moss Wright Park. Elder Babanezhad will conclude the Sabbath with a mini piano concert at 6:30 pm and presentation at 7 pm. During the seminar he will share Muslim’s understanding of Seventh-day Adventists, practical ways to witness, testimonies and much more followed with Q&A time.

What marvelous results would appear if the united prayers of this company were to ascend to God in living faith! Jesus stands ready to take these petitions and present them to His Father, saying, “I know these persons by name. Send answers to their prayers; for I have graven their names on the palms of My hands.”_ Evangelism, p. 414 Let us come together every Wednesday 6-7 PM in Room 109.
