Things You Might Be Wondering If You Are New
What can I expect when I attend Madison Campus Church?
We know that going to church for the first time or attending a new church can be a little intimidating, especially if you aren't sure what to expect. Our goal is to make you feel loved, appreciated, and respected when you attend Madison Campus whether you are just visiting Nashville briefly or looking for a place to make your church home.
What should I wear?
We tend to be a little formal in our dress. Some will have on suits and dresses; others, casual slacks and shirts. Wear what is comfortable for you. Know that you are welcome as is!
How will I know where to go?
The main entrance to our church is off of Larkin Springs Road. There is another entry off of Hospital Drive (it's the first road on the right when you turn off of Larkin Springs onto Hospital Drive). You will find parking all around the church, however, convenient visitor parking is to the left when you come through the Larkin Springs entry. There are a number of entrances into our church. The main one is facing Larkin Springs Road. There is also a drop off area and handicap parking on the north side of the building on on the lower south side. The lower entrance is a good place to enter if you are dropping off your kids at our children's classes.
Once you come inside you'll find greeters in the foyers and a welcome Kiosk with printed announcement sheets to let you know what is happening at Madison Campus. We do print a bulletin with an "order of service" so our greeters at our entrances have these and announcements sheets as well. You won't be made to give us any of your personal information or singled out during our church service. However, if you would like for our pastoral staff to contact you, you have a prayer request you would like our prayer team to pray for, or you would like to join our family, there are cards in the backs of the pews where you can write down your request. Just put it in the offering plate or hand it to one of our pastors or church volunteers.
Speaking of pews, sit where you like! We have members that have their favorite places to sit but if you happen to sit there, they will be happy to see you joined us for the service. The best seats are down front but the balcony also offers a great view. By the way, restrooms are located just outside the sanctuary entrance. There are also restrooms on the Ground floor, near the elevators and children's classrooms.
What will the service be like?
Some announcements will be showing on the screen just before the service begins. We start with a brief welcome and the service will includes prayer, music, a children's story, offering, and a sermon.
Our music is a reflection of the diversity in our church. Some Sabbaths there will be an orchestra and choir and other Sabbaths there is a praise team with guitars, keyboards, etc. Some of the music will be participatory and we would love to have you sing along if you feel comfortable.
As mentioned earlier, we do take up an offering. Please feel no obligation to put anything in the offering plate. As our guest, we want you to relax and simply enjoy the service. The offering is for members and those who are committed to Madison Campus as the primary place they receive their spiritual nourishment.
One of the pastors or guest speaker will give the sermon. It is just a talk, designed around a relevant topic using biblical references with practical application. The talk might incorporate a creative element such as drama or multi-media. You'll enjoy our senior pastor, he is personable, friendly, and often brings personal stories or current events into the message.
A prayer will follow the sermon and there is usually music while people exit after the service. We try hard to make both of our services about an hour long, however, our second service can sometimes go a little longer than the first service.
Four times a year we take communion together and the pastors will guide us on how to do this from the front, so just follow directions.
Will I need a Bible?
Yes, but if you don't have a Bible, don't worry. We encourage everyone to use their Bible to make sure that everything that is taught is backed up by the Bible. If you don't have a Bible we have them in the back of the pews and we usually have the scripture references projected on the screen.
Will I have to say anything, sign anything, or be singled out in any way?
Nope. We will do our best to never put you on the spot, single you out, or embarrass you in any way. However, if you would like for our pastoral staff to contact you, you have a prayer request you would like our prayer team to pray for, or you would like to join our family, there are cards in the backs of the pews where you can write down your request. Just put it in the offering plate or hand it to one of our pastors or church volunteers.
I have kids. Will there be something at your church for them?
You bet! We have fantastic activities for all ages. Our Sabbath School's start at 10:10 am and our greeters guide you to the right class for your children. We also have Sabbath schools for youth, collegiates, and young adults. Visit our Youth or Children's Ministry page for more information.
My child has a disability. What services do you provide for people with special needs?
We want Madison Campus to be a place where every member of your family is welcomed and fully included. Our No Barriers ministry provides several services for adults and children with disabilities, including a buddy program for one-to-one support during church programs, wheelchair accessible sanctuary seating, noise reducing headphones, large print Bibles, and audio headsets for those with hearing loss. Visit our No Barriers page or contact our No Barriers team (firstname.lastname@example.org) with questions or for more information.
I still have a few questions. Who can I ask?
Call our front desk (615-866-4776) anytime between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on weekdays or if you are here on a weekend ask our greeters. If they don't know the answer to your question they will find one our pastoral team to help you. We want to make sure you have a great experience while you are with us!
